What has been said about Kindred Love::
|
Kindred Love is a unique book that should be high on the reading lists of schools and families with youngsters. It deals with a subject that is not easy and is still controversial in contemporary society, and does this in an engaging and revelatory way. This is a book about the implications of loving someone from the same sex, but more so it is about being true to one's nature. The dialogues in the story are exceptionally entertaining and interesting, showing how we think from different perspectives and emotions, what often restricts us, and how we can find a way out of those restrictions.
The flowing story is rich with wisdom, has wit as well as a tear, and is an adventure to read for both the young and the old. Besides the fun involved in reading it, this book invites to introspection and discussion, exploring issues of gender, friendship and harmonious living. A daring book, Kindred Love inspires the reader most of all to live from the heart, with courage and compassion.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Kindred Love tells the story of two cubs: a wolf and a tiger named Wolf and Tiger. Wolf gets to know Tiger when he moves to the same village Tiger lives. In the first moment they saw each other, something happened inside them, even though they could not tell what it was. They started being together all the time, expressing this silent feeling for each other through innocent and gentle demonstrations of affection. These demonstrations of affection unsettle Wolf's parents, Father Wolf and Mother Wolfess, who separate the two cubs to avoid something they consider wrong and unnatural. Tiger's parents, Father Tiger and Mother Tigress, think just the opposite, that the union between Wolf and Tiger is rare and special, and try to make the wolf couple see the harm they are causing to the cubs. But Father Wolf and Mother Wolfess are headstrong and don't want to listen. The wolf family moves to another village, starting a chain of events that will show that not only Father Wolf and Mother Wolfess have insincere reasons behind their actions but that love is much simpler than it seems; all it takes is an open heart and a clean mind.
Kindred Love is told in a lighthearted tone, with many funny and emotional passages. It tells of love and appreciation for the other in simple, visual ways that shows the meaning and reason for all the events to be in the way they are. It is a simple story, with simple characters, telling simple things to show simple people how simple life is if one keeps it all simple in one's mind and heart. It is a view on love, but not a view that contrasts with the reader's; it seeks to merge with it as the plot invites the reader to consider the events through his/her point of view, but with the addition of a few details that allow a new look on things. The bottom line is that there is no gender when it comes to appreciate someone. So why put everything and everyone into little molds and set rules for everything when those don't really add to our happiness and fulfillment, but to our sadness and diversion? Everybody realizes love heals and builds grander things, and everyone is bound by it, then why there is so little love for each other in the world? It is not a questioning about homosexual love, but ultimately, a question about enjoying life and being happy with oneself and everybody else.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Vagner Albino was born in Bom Jesus, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in July 13th, 1984. His admiration for books started even before he learned how to read, pretending to read newspapers and magazines his parents used to buy. By the age of 8, he was already drawing and writing his own make-believe books, and by the age of 15 he would already have started his first long story; it is still unfinished. Seeking to improve his writing, he would only complete his second long story by the age of 19. He wrote 4 more books after this. Unsuccessful in his search for publishers, he took English classes, hoping to find better opportunities abroad. He finished his first novel in English when he was 21. Having used copyrighted characters, he couldn't publish it, so he compiled all his short stories written in English across the years into a book, "THE WOLF AND THE TIGER and other stories," which was accepted to be published by an American publishing house. Upon the arrangement of the contract, the publishing house withdrew the offer after the editors realized they mistook Vagner for an American citizen. Vagner did not let this bring him down. With the help of Lulu.com, he published "THE WOLF AND THE TIGER and other stories," in March 2007. Soon afterwards, he started writing his first original novel in English, "Kindred Love." Vagner was 22 years old when he finished Kindred Love. He had written 8 books, planned 21 and drafted 16. He already had his work published in anthologies, newspapers and many other places on the Internet. Besides writing, he was responsible for preparing the whole promotional material, website, and related activities, as well as editing (and proofreading!) the book and the cover art. Kindred Love was only possible because of the help of his family and friends, who helped him with production costs and proofreading tasks. By the time of this text, September 2007, Vagner was living with his family in São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He had never left the country and never met a foreigner before.
